There are two main types of hyperhidrosis.
This is a very common type of hyperhidrosis, your excessive sweating can be caused by an underlying health condition.
Sometimes, taking certain medications can also lead to excessive sweating.
This type of hyperhidrosis involves excessive sweating of the armpits, palms, soles of the feet, scalp or face. It is unclear what causes focal hyperhidrosis, but it is not a symptom of an underlying health condition. Triggers include:
Focal hyperhidrosis can be genetic and it affects both women and men equally. Though it can affect people at any age, symptoms most commonly begin before the age of 25.
A popular treatment for hyperhidrosis is using anti-wrinkle injections. The wrinkle treatment is injected into the affected underarms area. The toxin will block the chemical that activates the sweat glands, enabling you to stay dry. You’ll start to see results in around five days and the treatment is effective for up to six months.
Numbing cream can be applied to the area for 30 minutes before although some patients prefer not to use this and opt for an ice pack to numb the area instead. Many patients do not require either. Please be advised that for underarm treatments, we will require the area to be freshly shaved or the hairs to be trimmed to a length of 1cm long
The actual procedure takes about 20 to 25 minutes and is relatively straight forward. A series of small anti-wrinkle injections are injected to the relevant areas through a very fine needle
Simply avoid touching, rubbing or applying anything on the treated area for 4 hours to prevent infection and spreading of the medicine. Also, it is recommended not to exercise for 24 hours after the procedure.
Your sweat doesn’t go anywhere or get backed up because the sweat simply is not produced in the treated areas. Remember, the rest of your body is free to produce moisture normally.
