Russian Lips - The new technique

Some of new a phenomena in the non-surgical cosmetic space is Russian lips. The look is very modern and model-like and shies away from your typical ducky and overfilled look but again without any compromise on volume or lift. The border and side profiles stay beautifully balanced. The technique accentuates the cupid’s bow, and highly defines the edges of the lips; all whilst remaining relatively flat when viewed in profile.

So, what is the Russian lips look?

The technique produces extra volume in the body of the lip with a low chance of migration (product sitting above the lip). It can be used to create intentional plumpness or to give a supermodel natural fullness. Russian style lips are rumoured to be modeled on Russian nesting dolls, also known as matryoshka, who have perfectly heart-shaped lips and a defined cupid’s bow. The goal of the Russian Lip technique is to accentuate the cupid’s bow and create something close to a heart shape, and to heighten the lips rather than adding excessive plumpness; creating lips that resemble that of a matryoshka doll.

What is different about injecting?

Because the intended shape of Russian Lips is so different from that created by traditional filler, clients will need to have either let their original fillers wear off or have had them dissolved with hyaluronidase. Russian Lips are created by retro-injecting columns of filler vertically into the lips through the vermillion border, rather than horizontally in the vermillion zone as is done traditionally. This technique is also known as ‘lip tenting’, with the columns of filler acting as ‘tent-poles’ that hold up the white roll around the lip, creating lip definition.

Is there any additional pain by doing the Russian lip look?

There are fewer entry points used and only one in the border (this is where the sensitivity comes from) so pain really is kept to a minimum.

Lip fillers are best carried out with no anaesthesia, the light handedness of our injectors and the injection sites of this technique means there is zero pain or sensation during treatment so it really isn’t required. Anaesthesia has been known to affect swelling of the lip causing asymmetry of results and more downtime post-procedure. Our product range is all combined with lidocaine infusion (numbing inside the product) so numbs as we go.

Am I suitable?

The best lips to work on is one that has not previously been touched, however, if you do have previous product in the lip you will have to be removed by dissolve prior to your appointment. We do prefer to carry out the dissolving process ourselves to ensure complete removal. It is recommended waiting a minimum of 4 weeks before refilling your lips.

Why do I need to dissolve existing/old filler?

The Russian Lip Technique requires no filler whatsoever placed around the border of the lip, so for the technique to be carried out to its full potential, a dissolve of your previous lip filler is required.

How long does Russian lip filler last?

The treatment lasts the same amount of time that your usual lip fillers would, it is not the product that is different it is the technique.
